As an art history student I regret that my interest for artworks from the past is not shared by my friends. While traveling with friends, I often found myself trying to convince them to join me to the museum. However, I found out that not only my friends aren't interested, but youngsters in general lost the connection with art works form the past. Older people seem to have more time and interest in art pieces telling stories from century's ago. For some reason they still feel connected with those pieces, while we (and by we I mean youngsters) are to busy with other stuff. I guess this is a problem the art world should address. I feel like it is the job of museums and other cultural institutions to convince youngsters what's the relevance of art. If not, the art world won't be supported anymore by our future governors. This might seems like overreaction, but of course I know that a lot of people are still busy with art on different levels, which is great. Still I feel like the importance of art should be felt by many more people to keep the art world alive. For example, as an artist or even as an art historian it is difficult to survive in a job which is only art-orientated. I regret this very much and I also fear my own future because of this. But maybe now is exactly the right time to show what art is capable of? Maybe these corona times are an opportunity for the cultural institutions to show the world what they're worth?
